A Trombonist goes out for Valentine's Day
Due to moving halfway across the country, the Covid-19 pandemic and having another baby it's been four years since Steph and I had been able to go out for Valentines Day. We'd had an excellent delivered dinner in 2020 (or was it 2021? The two years are a blur) but this was the first time we'd been 'out out'.
Our venue of choice was the Redcliffe Hotel on Paignton Seafront who were putting on a Valentine's Day Special.
We arrived and were first of all shown into the bar area for a drink, before being shown into the small dining room. It was small, but it was cosy and provided a nice ambience. Had it been daylight we'd have had a sea view, however Valentine's Day is in February and there will be no sea view at this time of day for another few months.
To start, we shared the baked camembert before Steph had ribeye steak with creamy mushroom and blue cheese sauce, homemade chunky chips and buttered garden peas, and I had the glazed salmon with roast Mediterranean vegetables and Lyonnaise potatoes. Then for dessert Steph had the dark chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and I had the tarte au citron.
It was a lovely evening and nice to spend time together just the two of us. Even some of the local youths chucking a stone through the main dining room window didn't dampen the atmosphere.
All in all, a wonderful evening.
